AFCON: What It Is and Why Every Football Fan Loves It

AFCON stands for the African Cup of Nations — Africa's biggest international football competition. Every two years, 24 national teams compete for the trophy.

The History

The first AFCON was held in 1957 in Sudan, with just 4 teams. Today, AFCON has 24 teams, including teams from the 5 new countries added to PronoKick: Côte d'Ivoire, Ghana, DR Congo, Guinea, and Mali.

The Format

- 24 teams in 6 groups (A-F)
- 4 teams per group
- Top 2 from each group advance to the knockout stage
- Round of 16 → Quarter-finals → Semi-finals → Final

Why AFCON Matters

For fans of Côte d'Ivoire, Ghana, DR Congo, Guinea, or Mali — AFCON is the biggest moment in the football calendar. It's when an entire country gathers in front of the TV to support their national team.

PronoKick collects predictions for every AFCON match. After the match, results are shown transparently — no hiding.
